What Is 400 GSM Fabric?
Fabric density is measured in GSM — grams per square meter.
GSM tells you how much one square meter of fabric weighs. It’s the industry standard for measuring thickness and density.
If a fabric is 400 GSM, that means one square meter of that material weighs 400 grams.
Higher GSM = denser, heavier fabric.
Lower GSM = lighter, more breathable fabric.
For perspective:
✦ Lightweight tees: 120–180 GSM
✦ Midweight hoodies: 240–300 GSM
✦ Heavyweight hoodies: 320–380 GSM
✦ This zip hoodie: 400 GSM
400 GSM sits firmly in heavyweight territory. It has structure. It has insulation. It holds its shape without feeling stiff.
It is slightly lighter than the 420g Bureau of Density Hoodie, but still built for real layering and real cold weather.
Why 400 GSM Works for a Zip?
Zip hoodies need:

✦ Enough weight to layer without collapsing
✦ Enough insulation without overheating
400 GSM gives you that balance.
You get warmth without feeling like you are wearing upholstery.
How to Measure
Lay a similar garment flat on a table.
- Width (Chest) - Measure straight across from armpit to armpit.
- Length - Measure from the highest point of the shoulder (HPS) to the bottom hem.
- Sleeve (Hoodies) - Measure from center back of neck to end of sleeve.
For best results, compare measurements to a garment you already own and like the fit of.
